Description
(4-6″ tall x 14-18″ wide) Sedum rupestre ‘SunSparkler® Wildfire’ PP#28621 (Stonecrop) brightens the garden with bright rose-red foliage edged in pink. The 6-inch-tall plants form lovely mounds as it naturalizes, spreading to form carpets of color. In late summer pink flowers arrive and flower for well over a month. The flowers may be cut back after flowering or left standing for winter interest and to feed the birds. Bees and butterflies love the flowers too. Plant ‘Wildfire’ Sedum (aka stonecrop) in a sunny location in average-sandy-gravelly soil with good drainage. Drainage and sunlight are the most important ingredients for success with Sedums, following those guides, be creative and see what works! Containers, hillsides, retaining walls and ledges, borders, rock gardens, any place that low maintenance, low water, high color is desired. Replace some turf with groundcover Sedums. Hardy in zones 4-9 and evergreen in areas with milder winters, a light covering of conifer branches may help keep them growing. Otherwise, they will re-sprout in spring with fresh growth. Pinch back new growth if desired to thicken up the plant, water occasionally, and enjoy these lovely native powerhouses.
